Grateful Thanksgiving
Think of the first Thanksgiving. Your home would be heated by the fireplace and over the flames hangs a pot and also a roasting spit. You would have to get up early to start the fire and fetch water from the nearest spring. Sourdough bread is prepared and set by the fire to rise. The men of the household brought fowl and venison and the children gathered wild greens as well as squash and corn from the garden. Shellfish will be a special treat as a side dish. There is excitement in the air to prepare for this special gathering. Everyone is thankful for a good harvest this year because the past year was harsh and many settlers died.
Today while you're planning your Thanksgiving celebration thank the Lord for the past year, the good and the bad. Think of the modern blessings as the meal is being prepared and for the abundance of food, family, and friends.
"I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving." Psalm 69:30
